Of course, meticulous brushing and regular flossing can help prevent unwanted trips to the dentist. And we certainly recommend maintaining impeccable oral care at home—however, there is only so much you can do at home without professional care and cleaning. Routine care is how we help you stay on top of your oral health, before problems arise.

At South Main Dental, we recommend that our patients come visit us every six months so we can examine and clean their teeth.

Our dental hygienists begin your appointment by giving your teeth and gums a deep clean. Most patients tell us that their mouths feel squeaky clean when they leave a cleaning—and that’s what we like to hear! The cleaning removes plaque, tartar, and brightens your smile—while reducing the risk of developing gingivitis.

After your cleaning, one of our dentists will perform an oral exam. Our oral exams are meticulous and thorough ensuring that any defects, cavities, or other common dental issues are identified, and an appointment is made to solve them.

Fluoride treatments are essential for the strength of your enamel. Often, we give fluoride treatments to children to ensure that their teeth stay strong as they develop. However, fluoride treatments are good for grown ups too!

A fluoride treatment consists of a fluoride-rich paste applied to the team for a period of time. Once the time is up, you simply swish with water and spit! Maintaining healthy, strong teeth has never been easier.

Our team at South Main is the finest team of dentists in Torrington! We’re proud to serve our community, and our goal is to build relationships that last a lifetime. We’re dedicated to your oral health, and aim to provide a relaxing, enjoyable experience! If you have any questions about South Main Dental, our team, or our services—please feel free to reach out!

Dental sealants use a liquid, quick-drying resin that fully protects your rear teeth from the harmful effects of acid, bacteria, and food particles. The resin itself is invisible, and is dried using a harmless UV light. This adds an extra layer of protection and peace of mind for your dental health!

Oral cancer screening aims to discover mouth cancer or precancerous lesions that may progress to mouth cancer at an early stage, when the cancer or lesions are easiest to remove and most likely to be cured.

People at high risk of oral cancer may benefit from screening.  The following factors can raise the risk of mouth cancer:

  • Tobacco consumption in any form, including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, and snuff
  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Previous diagnosis of oral cancer
  • Significant sun exposure history, which raises the risk of lip cancer

Our patients’ oral health is our top priority. That’s why we believe regular screenings for oral cancer are a great preventative tool that we have in our arsenal. Together, we can nip the issue in the bud!
